These delightful pieces are hand carved and crafted from carefully selected natural resources; because each piece is made by hand using simple tools, even when they are based on the same subject matter or design, no two carvings on our site are identical.

Each African wood carving on our site is skillfully made by artists in our network using age old techniques.  We choose to obtain our carvings and other artwork from low income families in Africa to provide a market for their brilliant products. 4% of our profits are shared with these groups to help raise their quality of living.

Wood remains one of the most important materials to our artists mainly because it is easily accessible and relatively easy to carve, allowing the artisans to express their thoughts more freely and creatively. Most of the carvings take the form of animals and humans with a close link to the country of origin. Our artists hail from all over Africa, but our West African wood carvings and South African wood carvings remain some of the most popular on our site.
